Aldercar Flash is predominately a wetland reserve that comprises of newly generated ponds and reed beds on the River Erewash. The reserve itself is part of a much larger area that is managed by the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, as their Erewash Meadows Nature Reserve.
It's an extremely important site for wading birds and waterfowl - for wintering and breeding. The general advice is to try and not disturb the birds, so its best to view from the surrounding public footpath.
