About Birdfact

An independent ornithology resource trusted by researchers, journalists, and millions of curious readers worldwide.

What Birdfact is

Birdfact is a comprehensive bird species reference covering hundreds of species in depth — from identification and behaviour to distribution, diet, and conservation status. Every profile is researched from authoritative scientific sources and written to be accessible to birders of all experience levels.

Beyond species profiles, Birdfact publishes original articles on bird behaviour, ecology, and birdwatching. Our AI bird identifier lets you photograph any bird and get an instant identification with contextual reasoning based on your location and the time of year. Registered members receive personalised monthly digests tailored to the birds in their area, and can build a life list and contribute photos to our community gallery.

The site is independently run and free to use. We believe good information about the natural world should be openly available to everyone.
